Conductor, Pianist, and Composer active in Italy and Abroad

After working for nine years in Germany—first as a répétiteur and conductor at the Opera of Leipzig and the Nordhausen Theatre, and later as permanent Conductor (1. Kapellmeister) at the Landestheater Niederbayern—she currently resides in Italy, where she continues an intense artistic and teaching career. She has conducted at prestigious institutions, including the Leipzig Opera House, the National Theatre of Tirana, the Indonesian theatres Taman Budaya in Yogyakarta and Aula Simfonia in Jakarta, as well as theatres in Passau, Landshut, Straubing, and Sondershausen in Germany, the Czech Theatre of České Budějovice (Budweis), the Teatro Coccia in Novara, Taranto Opera Festival, and many others. She has conducted renowned orchestras such as the Gewandhausorchester, the Niederbayerische Philharmonie, the Loh-Orchester Sondershausen, the National Opera Orchestra of Tirana, the Puccini Festival Orchestra, the Aula Simfonia Orchestra in Jakarta, the Royal Orchestra Yogyakarta, the Orchestra of Ticino Musica, the Carlo Coccia Orchestra, I Musici di Parma, the Ettore Pozzoli Orchestra, Oscom, Il Clavicembalo Verde, the Alps Symphony Orchestra, and many more.

In 2024, she was the conductor of A Tribute to Giacomo Puccini, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the composer's death and the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Indonesia, representing Italy in two concerts on the island of Java, in the presence of the Italian Ambassador and the Royal Family of Yogyakarta. In 2018, she conducted productions for Rossini150, celebrating Gioachino Rossini, at the Teatro Carcano in Milan and the Teatro Coccia in Novara. She also conducted two world premieres in 2021 and 2022 at the Teatro Coccia: Un bullo in maschera by Federico Gon and Tutto in una notte, a collective opera commissioned by the theater and composed by seven different composers.

Her extensive repertoire includes numerous symphonic concerts and operatic productions. Some notable titles include La Traviata (Verdi), La Wally (Catalani), Iris (Mascagni), Ariodante (Handel), Il mondo della luna (Haydn), Il filosofo di campagna (Galuppi), Wiener Blut and Der Zigeunerbaron (J. Strauss), Die Zauberflöte, Le Nozze di Figaro, Bastien und Bastienne (Mozart), Der Graf von Luxemburg (Lehár), Pinocchio (Valtinoni), Il Barbiere di Siviglia, La Cambiale di Matrimonio, La Scala di Seta, Il Signor Bruschino (Rossini), Orfeo ed Euridice (Gluck), Don Pasquale (Donizetti), and many others.

Alongside her concert activities, Margherita Colombo is a passionate vocal coach teacher and regularly holds courses for répétiteurs. She is currently a faculty member at the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Accademia "I Musici di Parma" in Salsomaggiore Terme, and teaches at the Conservatory. In 2020, she co-founded and served as music director of the youth orchestra Orchestra in Erba (CO), a project that won the 2020 Third Sector grant from the Lombardy Region. She is also a strong advocate for promoting cultural and musical activities at the local level: since 2020, she has been the founder and director of the amateur polyphonic choir E-chorus in Meda, and since 2023, she has served as the artistic director of the L’Arte della Terra Festival, which organizes performances and cultural events aimed at raising awareness of environmental issues.
